Today we drove down from Las Vegas to Cajun Junction California about 225 miles. from there my wife dropped me off and I went solo up the climb about 12 miles and about 1200 foot elevation climbing. It feels good to finally get on way and started. The weight in front was a little bit too much so I’m going to change it around a little bit for the next ride.
On the way up, a bunch of fire trucks and emergency units passed by. About midway there was a brushfire that they were working on. It looked like they had it under control. It’s pretty dry in this area so I can see how even in May, fires can start very easily.
There were pretty strong winds but it wasn’t too bad in regards to headwinds. There was quite a bit of climbing but there wasn’t any super steep parts.
Some of the state parks like this one have hiker / biker campsites. They’re nice because you don’t pay full standard campsite rates and you don’t need to make reservations. This one cost $10 per person. The campground probably is only about 10% full. When I got here I was the only person in the hiker biker area. But now there’s a group of at least four hikers also here.
Tomorrow may be the hardest day of the whole tour is regards to climbing so I’m going to try to get an early start.
