The main objective for today is to make it to the next big city where there are some bike shops to address my wheel issue. The two cities with potential are Oxnard and Ventura.
The area around Oxnard is a very agriculture based with various fields, harvesting and planting all over.
I didn’t find any suitable bike shop until I got to The city of Ventura.
I know this seems to be a reoccurring trauma of wheel and spoke issues. But it really is for me. After I got the second spoke fixed at Matt’s and feeling great, about 10 miles later another one popped on the same side, different spoke. They have all been on the same side and facing the same direction. This means in total I expect at least nine to break. At least I hope that’s the extent of it. This means I should buy at least four more spokes.
On the good side, I’m getting pretty efficient at replacing them. The third one I already replaced and it only took me about 1/2 hour. Another good point is I complained to the bike shop I bought it from and they’ve already refunded my money. I’d rather have a functional wheel but at least I can use the money to offset repair costs. If one breaks on the cassette side, I will be dead in the water until I get my tools from my wife.
So for today’s ride I rode about 80% of it with a broken spoke. I’m surprised and additional one hasn’t broke when there’s already one broken. I hope this doesn’t happen.
It was really a spectacular ride today. Amazing paths and scenery. It’s just hard to fully appreciate when you are worried about your bike failing. I did my best to enjoy and just go with the flow.
Mission tomorrow; Head north about 48 miles, stop by another bike shop and buy four more spokes and hopefully no more breaks.
Ride summary: 4/10 difficulty, 50 miles (plus 2 for dinner) with 950 feet climbing. Mostly cloudy with some sun but mild temperatures. Medium cross and headwinds but not too difficult. Today’s ride detailed GPS.

That must be a bad batch of metal used in that wheel. Bummer.
So, which way did you go, Rock Slide or Car side?
I chose the car side. Either would have worked out ok though 😊
